Cyclist killed in Gironde

Sunday night a cyclist was killed on the RD651. The motorist who knocked him down had fled. He was identified Monday and placed in custody on Tuesday morning.

Sunday night, between 21h and 21h30, a cyclist who was traveling on the RD651 was mortally mowed by a car. This 47-year-old Franco-German teacher residing in La Manche was in the midst of a cycle tour in the department. He was wearing a reflective vest, a helmet and a light on his bike.

For some unknown reason, a motorist hit him from behind and was thrown into the ditch.

The gendarmes who had called for witnesses found the driver 24 hours after the accident. On Monday, a resident of Saucats called the gendarmerie because she noticed that her neighbor’s car was damaged and corresponded in all respects to the description given by the investigators.

The policemen knocked on the door of the owner of the dark-colored Peugeot who had lost a rearview mirror at the scene of the collision. They seized the vehicle and carried out technical and scientific police checks to make sure it was the car in question.

The owner of the vehicle, intoxicated at the time of his arrest, was placed in a sobering cell in the premises of the Brigade Léognan. This Tuesday morning, he was subject to a measure of custody that is prolonged.
