On Sunday was the star driver Jorma Kontio involved in an accident in Finnish V76.
But thanks to the new safety vest, he could go from lightly bruised.
– I simply had guardian angel, says Jorma Kontio.
Saturday was running the V76-races in the Finnish Uleborg. It could have ended badly for the Swedish-based driver legendary Jorma Kontio, who was involved in an accident.
At the start he collided with a competitor and got stuck in his pushchair when it overturned.
– We prepared for the start when a competitor’s horse was acting nervously. This led to my buggy flipped over and I got stuck between my horse and sulky, says Jorma Kontio.
“I had a guardian angel”
Kontio survived virtually unscathed – thanks to that he used a so-called safety vest.
– My horse Surprise Lord is one of the nicest horses that are running. It was lucky in this case; otherwise it would have ended worse. I simply had guardian angel, says Jorma Kontio.
– I ran with a new safety vest with reflective tape yesterday and it was enough that I got away without major injuries, he continues.
The horse was stressed by the incident, and bolted around the track for a long time. But Jorma did an interview right away. He drove Moreover races – and won – later in the day of the race.
– I ran a race later in the evening that I won and now on Sunday I’m heading towards new races in the Finnish Jyväskylä, said Jorma Kontio in reflective vest.
The Finnish newspaper Iilta Sanomat was the first to report the incident.
