Motorcyclists are tired of dodging the huge gaps that fill the roads, and represent a serious safety problem even they wear the safety reflective clothing, especially for drivers of two-wheeled vehicles. Therefore, representatives of more than 15 groups of motorcyclists did not rule out reaching the Capitol if the government does not listen to their claims to attend to the poor conditions of the roads.
Among the officials who called for dialogue, is Governor Ricardo, who was sent a letter explaining the situation. The same request was made to the Secretary of the Department of Transportation and Public Works (DTOP), Carlos Contreras.
As an initial measure, motorcyclists are painting with paint the gaps on the tracks to alert drivers about where the craters are. They also asked that they work with the curb on the roads as well as with light signs that at night warn of the dangers. First Hour had a meeting with dozens of bikers among those who had several who recover from road accidents. According to motorcyclist Rafael Villella, in the last three weeks there have been reported about eight accidents of companions.
“We are concerned about the large number of accidents in recent years, including the death of colleagues, due to poor and precarious road conditions. This is uncontrollable because it is in the whole country, “said Georgia Rivera, leader of the Bikers Undoes Boricua (BUB) movement, which carries out social work throughout the year. The promoter of the meeting said that their passion is “to ride on two wheels, but many, like the police and the messengers, use their engines to work, and all are exposed to accidents.”
After asking to be heard by the government, Rivera mentioned that when a motorcycle owner buys the tag “we are required $ 10 additional, supposedly for improvements of polygons and for us to have continuous education on road safety.”
In the Island there is a single polygon to take the license (M-1) to drive motor.
“We do not put up with the situation anymore. The government requires shoes, reflective tape, glasses, safety helmet, etc., and now the fines will increase. If they demand of us, we are in demand. We are not asking for anything other than for national security, which is involved in this, “warned Rivera.
Magalia Delgado, president of the group “Los Realigns”, came to the meeting with her arms plastered after the 2 April had an accident.
“I was driving on the express 52 and already, at the height of the Medical Center, I feel that the motor starts to get out of control. When I straightened it I fell into a hole and the motor rose. There I lost consciousness, “said the woman who has been driving for ten years.
To avoid passing over to Delgado, Lopez lowered the engine but both fell rolling on the floor. Frodo resulted in blows to his knees and body.
Pedro Penrose, a member of Los Realigns, accompanied the group in a bus when he noticed that the road seemed “a washboard. Her engine started jumping. ”
He said that when the motorboat picked up the hole, it continued running and the woman was suspended in the air. Then Delgado “fell face down, did not move … When I called for the third time with all my soul, there as she took a breath and began to breathe. It was a pretty strong impression, “he said excitedly.
Delgado also has blows to the knees and elbow, and bruises all over the body.
Meanwhile, Rivera warned that if the government does not take action they will go to the Capitol.
“We’re being forced to make it to the Capitol to make some kind of pressure. We will be parking the motor to the front and if they do not listen to us, we will have to copy the circumference of the Capitol until somebody attends to us, “he said.
“We are going to go climbing, climbing until we achieve our purpose. It is not asking for us, it is road safety for all of Puerto Rico, “he reiterated.
Andrés Cruz Lama, president of the Latin American Motorcycle Association (LAMA) said that what they demand “is not that they pave all roads. The first thing is to stop all those gaps. Then they have to keep doing their job. “
