‘Dangerous stairs’ will receive reflective tape on the steps

Reflective tape should ensure that people no longer fall from the stairs in the new station in Arnhem. Last week, one day after the unofficial opening, two people aged 89 and 90 years fell from the stairs.

They had gone to the plateau with the elevator where a coffee corner was to come. Looking around the new building, they did not see the exit. Since then, the staircase was no longer accessible to travelers.

So-called signal tape has now been ordered. Before the end of the week, that reflective adhesive tape must be applied to the edge of the steps. According to spokesman, the staircase will open again. He does not yet know what color tape it will be.

The signal tape is a temporary solution. With the architect of the station, we are now looking at a permanent solution for the staircase. According to De Kurten, this has to be as fast as possible. You can think of white balls that are glued to the edges of the steps or to stones with markings of reflective material.
