Training for a marathon can feel like walking in the dark

I walk past a dark river at six in the evening. I cannot see the river anymore. The road is poorly lit. Can the city of Amsterdam not provide decent lighting for evening walkers? The lighting is off in some areas. I am invisible to the traffic around me. Cyclists pass me and thus illuminate my path. The darkness gobbles me up again afterward. The Netherlands feels like an empty country. It is time to walk in a reflective vest. The lifebuoy of the winter runner. Whoever does not wear a vest does play with his life. I did not put on a vest like that. I play with my life. My shoes reflect a little bit. More and more reflective fabrics are incorporated in the outerwear and in the long pants. But that is not enough.

I will have to make a choice from the range of reflective clothing and attributes. Traffic on the road has increased. Scooters shoot me a few centimeters away. Somewhere in a drawer, I have a handy headlight on my head. That will be the next time.

Now it is too late. I do not see a hand in mind. In the past, you did not see so many runners with fluorescent vests. Times have changed. A well-prepared runner has a vest on and often also a flickering light around the arm. Pure necessity.

My hands feel cold for the first time this year, the wind of the invisible river blows against it.

Run faster. Who trains for the marathon will often only have to go on the road. A long duration course takes a few hours. One disappears into the endurance run. I think of what the Surinam-Dutch basketball player Francisco Elson said on Radio 1. He is the only Dutchman ever to achieve the highest title in American NBA basketball. He told about that experience. Wollemi Heaven asks him how he felt the day after the victory. His answer was remarkably sober. He had reached his goal.

A clear goal to aim for is important. The 42 kilometers and 195 meters of the marathon run. There is no clearer goal. Training for a marathon can feel like walking in the dark. Why all this effort, all this training, all this sacrifice for a race that is over after a few hours. I feel very heavy. I want to stop walking to get that sense of hopelessness out of my head. The darkness obscures all my ambitious plans. Do not nag, Abd-el-Kader, walk!

Just walk. This steps that I put. I can see that step. The rests do not. The rest is also not important. I count every step. In my next evening training, I really have to wear a vest. And a light bracelet. And a light in the head. I have to light myself.

Freed from the start and finish I run home. When I walk into the house, I bathe in the light.

The event occurred during the morning of this Monday.

The affected person was not wearing safety equipment, such as reflective vest or reflective clothing which made of reflective fabric.

According to reports from the Emergency Medical Care Service (SAMU), the incident occurred at 08:30 hours when a jeep collided the bicycle of a 30-year-old Haitian citizen, who ended up lying in the central of Salvador Avenue.

Derailers distribute yellow vests

The association offered lifejackets and safety and lighting for bicycles. On Friday, November 9, 2018. A way to highlight the ecological displacement as an alternative to the automobile.

“These yellow safety vests are also an alternative to rising fuels,” says Marc Le Roche. Like him, on Friday evening, about twenty members of derailers distributed safety vests and lighting for the two-wheelers. “To encourage people to cycle, even when it’s dark, you have to be seen,” says Anne-Marie de Beaufort. If the lighting at the front and back is mandatory, the reflective vest with reflective tape for clothing, it is not, but it is strongly recommended. ”

With the support of several Bayeux merchants, bicycle and sporting goods merchants and a partnership with the sub-prefecture, the association was able to offer these useful accessories to cyclists.

One of the many actions of this group that continues to campaign for the smooth movement. “The president of the Region has also responded to our request for bicycle parking at the train station,” said Marc le Roche. Hervey Morin assures that this equipment will be put in place, as part of the renovation of the passenger building. ”

These defenders of the little queen will take stock of their actions, at a meeting on Wednesday, November 28, at 19 pm in the St. Laurent room. “All cyclist users, whether members or not, are invited,” says Marc Le Roche.

The grand finale of the “Reflective School” contest at SP No. 3

On 29/10/2018, the great final of the Reflective School competition took place in our school. The ceremony began in the gym. All students and teachers participated in it, but also invited guests. They were representatives of the Police Headquarters: Mrs. Maria Gauzy and Mr. Marci Adamou and the Group of Motorcyclists with Mr. Raga Korzybski.

The artistic part consisted of a presentation promoting knowledge about safe pedestrian traffic on the streets in autumn and winter. On the stage, we saw different situations helping us to understand how important is responsible behavior on the road and reflective fabrics in our attire. There were poems, songs, and dances wonderfully presented by students of our school in a similar subject. The gathered audience had a unique opportunity to admire the reflective fashion show. Ah! What a spectacle !! And models ?! We tell you a great past in the fashion world!

The spectators reacted merrily to the presence of live mascots: “Inspector of Wawel”. It is worth emphasizing that not only the stage and the actors presented the subject matter related to road traffic. The spectators also came to the ceremony perfectly prepared and supplied with large road signs, banners, and reflective vests, which together with the decoration and stage design constituted a coherent whole. All this to make us remember that road safety depends a lot on us.

As befits the finale, director Margareta and representatives of the KPP gave prizes to the laureates of artistic competitions, knowledge, multimedia presentations and leaflets.

Further attractions related to this event awaited us in the school’s courtyard. The students could see the wonderful motorcycles of our guests, take souvenir pictures of themselves. Later, in the presence of motorcycles and police officers, we went on a street happening at the housing estate. We all marched in reflective vests which made of reflective materials with road signs and banners that children had made to promote road safety. It was not only the weather that was favorable to us. The pedestrians and drivers encountered reacted with sympathy, smiled, waved to us. By the way, a group of older students handed out leaflets about road safety.

In this edition of the competition, we took care of the safety of our seniors. At 5 pm, the school canteen held an evening for them, which had an educational and entertaining value.

We consider the next final of the “Reflective School” competition very successful. In addition to fun and many attractions, the most important role – promoting safety on the road and raising awareness that we can be responsible for them, has been achieved.

The “yellow vests” manifest in Reims on the sidelines of Emmanuel Macron’s visit

Stop taxes, France angry “,” Macron, leave me my dough “… Chasubles on the shoulders, slogans in the back, about sixty” yellow reflective vests “wanted to take advantage of the arrival of Emmanuel Macron in Reims to express their “fed up” with rising fuel taxes. The appointment was given at 6:30 pm on the forecourt of the train station, via social networks, at the initiative of this informal movement that calls for a blocking of roads on November 17.

From the station, the demonstrators intended to reach the city hall, where the President was expected, but they were prevented by a large cordon of CRS positioned around the square: 25 on one side, 25 of the ‘other. The “yellow vests” with reflective materials did not seek to force, or even had time to form a procession: they dispersed when a spokeswoman announced that they would not be allowed to join the town hall. “We are forbidden to move from the square. We are completely surrounded by the CRS. We cannot leave together at City Hall. ”

The dislocation was carried out calmly but not without anger against this ban “to come and go freely,” denounced the participants. “It shows that our movement is disturbing,” the spokeswoman consoled herself. “On November 17, they’ll see that it’s not going to be fun. ”

Operation infiltration on the outskirts of the town hall

Chasuble removed, about twenty protesters, however, managed to sneak up to the edge of the town hall and mingle with onlookers. They then put on their yellow vests which made of reflective fabrics and chanted “Macron resignation! “, Punctuated by a Marseillaise. The CRS responded by pushing the barriers, in order to widen the security perimeter. The anger of the slingers: “She is beautiful, France! The President of the Republic did not hear anything since he had not arrived yet.

Half of the reflective tapes sold do not have the required properties!

Reflective ribbons to wear pedestrians under reduced visibility outside the village do not always fulfill their function. It is claimed by the Czech Trade Inspection, according to which half of the samples sold do not have the required properties. The light does not reflect enough and the driver cannot see the pedestrian in time.

“The Czech Trade Inspectorate inspected 37 reflective tapes, out of which 33 found violations of the law. Most often it was the fact that reflective tapes do not have enough retro-reflective materials, “said Czech Trade Inspector Jami Froehlich.

“The difference in quality between these tapes may be up to sixty times. If they are poor, we are 60 times worse off seeing the person moving outside the illuminated area, “Igor, spokeswoman for Central Automobile Club (UAMK), said.

Inspectors for the sale of poor-quality reflective tapes awarded fines to businesses worth a total of 300 thousand crowns. It was also the Czech Post that had to sell it, but it sold a good but unmarked CE symbol.

“Of course, we paid the fine with the fact that we were claiming the tapes at our supplier. He added the correctly marked tapes and paid us the fine, “Czech Post Spokesperson Mayes Vatic said.

And even if you have a high-quality reflective tape, it’s important that you place it in a visible place. Best on the hand and foot towards the road.

Bergondo “distinguishes” young and old to reduce the abuses

That is the call made by the City Council as a measure for pedestrians to improve their safety on the road and the name of a campaign that focuses on young and old as the most vulnerable groups. As the DGT and the Junta did, the Council promotes the use of reflective materials to reduce the risk of being run over.

To encourage the use, from the consistory have commissioned 2,000 serigraphic vests with the logo of the campaign, which are already being distributed among the elderly who attend sports, cultural and social services. From Citizen Security detected the need to provide these reflective vests to participants in municipal activities, since most attend and return from their classes on foot and at night, with the danger that this entails having to travel, in some cases, through tracks with reduced luminosity. The delivery is made by representatives of the local government and the local police, and take the opportunity to give instructions to users, such as walking in a row on the shoulder, in the opposite direction to vehicles, crossing through the marked places or always use the vest with reflective fabric between them and the sunrise or in adverse weather conditions.

Bracelets for schoolchildren local government is convinced that training can avoid problems in the future, so they will also distribute at the CPI and in the activities aimed at young people a total of 500 yellow bracelets and the Bergamo to begin to raise awareness among schoolchildren of the importance of showing themselves when they travel in low light conditions.

Is there a fine by putting yellow vest on the front of car?

To show their support for the 17 November protest movement, some motorists are putting a safety vest which made of reflective fabric on the dashboard of their car.

Some netizens are worried about this gesture sanctioned with a fine ranging from 90 to 150 euro.

But it is an index, emanating either from a hoax on the Word Press site or from an unfounded rumor, as confirmed by the 20 Minutes Road Safety.

With the approach of November 17, when French people dissatisfied with rising fuel prices plan to “block roads” in France, netizens are worried about potential repressions against a symbolic object of the movement.

The safety vest is indeed used by some motorists as a sign of rallying … in accordance with calls made to this effect on social networks, including the Facebook page “Info Routes Haut-Doubs 25”, from October 29: “To show your discontent, you can place a vest at the front of your vehicle on the dashboard. ”

However, according to a viral rumor on social networks, such a gesture would expose to a fine ranging between 90 and 150 euro, for reasons more or less likely … including an alleged “apology of terrorism”, actually emanating from a parodic article.

The reading of the original text  is enough to arouse suspicion: “Jovian has just been surprised this afternoon by a police patrol who pitched him for an appeal for revolt and apology for terrorism. Indeed, since the state of emergency measures incorporated in the law…placing a vest on its dashboard can be likened to an apology for terrorism. “The movement of yellow vests is technically a call for violence and terror at the top of the state,” the article concludes.

“The info” is all the less credible because it comes from the parody site Word press, which specializes in the publication of satirical content with often dark humor – and obviously determined to make fun of the “movement of yellow vests”, since he integrates these with the photos of his last articles.

Contacted by 20 Minutes, Road Safety confirms that it is indeed an index and recalls the provisions of Article R416-19 of the Highway Code, relating to the triangle and the safety vest. “The driver shall wear a high-visibility vest complying with the regulations when he is required to leave a vehicle immobilized on the roadway or its surroundings following an emergency stop. In circulation, the driver must have this vest at hand, “says the text.

No verbalization … “except in case of the hindrance to visibility”

Road Safety also recalls that it is precisely the absence of a vest or its non-use in this context that exposes a financial penalty: “The driver who does not comply with these rules is liable to the fine provided for the contraventions 4th class (135 euro). ”

The other rumor circulating on the yellow vest already seems more likely than “the apology of terrorism”: “Attention! They verbalize the cars with the yellow vest on the dashboard driver side, 90 to 135 euro, it continues… Put them on the passenger side. ”

But this is also a poison, denied on November 2 by the Facebook page of the Gendarmerie: “You will not be verbalized if you put the yellow safety vest on your dashboard, except in case of the hindrance to visibility. “This defined, in this case, as” the affixing of non-transparent objects on the windows” indeed exposes the motorist to a fine of 45 euro.

Lions Club equips kindergartens with safety vests

With brand-new reflective vests, the Lions Club is equipping several kindergartens in these days.

With brand-new warning vests, the Lions Club is equipping several kindergartens in these days to increase the safety of the girls and boys cared for here on the road. A total of 170 safety vests at six kindergartens will be handed out.

On the morning of 9th October, the children of the kindergarten gladly accepted the new safety vests with reflective tapes, which they immediately tried out. With 60 pieces this device is considered. The handover was carried out by the president of the Lions Club, Johannes, and the club member Sebastian.

The action took place for the second time after the Lions Club sponsored the first time safety vests with reflective materials in kindergartens in 2014.

“Is the light right, is the view correct?”

Week of traffic safety meets with high acceptance in Vorarlberg.

Last Monday, the Road Safety Advisory Board (KFV) in Vorarlberg launched the Road Safety Week under the motto “Visibility” (the UN reported). Martin from the KFV Vorarlberg on the current results: “So far we have distributed around 4000 reflectors to pedestrians. At the wheel checks, around 150 wheel lights were repaired. Over 200 emergency lights were installed so that the way home could safely continue. Also, a variety of vehicle handlebars have been provided with the Folder. Is the light, agrees the point of view ‘informed about their potential contribution to more visible on the road.’

Action “fireflies”

“I see something you do not see!” Is a fun game for children – but the funny thing is when it comes to visibility on the road. Because especially in the dark season, it is important to be noticed by other road users in time to avoid accidents. In the past five years, 6545 pedestrians have crashed on Austria’s roads in darkness and poor visibility in traffic, including 114 children between the ages of zero and six. Therefore, the KFV has now developed the “Firefly” campaign, which teaches children in a playful way about the dangers of darkness and poor visibility and the need to wear light and reflective vests. The traffic safety campaign is now being offered by the KFV free of charge throughout Austria for kindergartens and elementary schools.

Well-visible, bright reflective clothing, and reflective accessories, according to Martin, provide useful services in the foggy, dark time on the road. “Dark-clad people are visible at night only from 25 to 30 meters away for a motor vehicle driver. With reflective fabric, a pedestrian can be seen from a distance of 130 to 160 meters. This makes it easier for drivers to respond in a timely manner. “explains the traffic expert.
