To ride or not to ride? In the autumn and winter season, many motorcyclists ask themselves this question. When the thermometer shows only a few degrees Celsius in the plus, it is necessary to equip yourself with appropriate clothing and other useful motorcycle accessories that increase the comfort and safety of driving in difficult conditions. Rain, wind, and snow are not the only factors that make life difficult for two-wheelers. They are accompanied by temperature fluctuations, high humidity and slippery surfaces. Also, it gets dark quickly in autumn, which means that motorcyclists have to be extremely careful on the road.
On cold days, we do not have to give up the pleasure of motorcycling. Warm, waterproof clothing, a helmet with an anti-fog pinlock, decent shoes with a non-slip sole – it’s worth thinking about them when planning a late autumn trip on two wheels.
Clothing with a membrane and insulation
In autumn, it is not difficult to get wet or chill – especially if we ride a motorcycle, exposing ourselves to capricious weather. An indispensable companion of every motorcyclist is a jacket with a waterproof membrane. A model additionally equipped with a warming lining that guarantees optimal thermal conditions will be useful.
When the temperature drops dramatically, we should take special care of our hands. Fossilized fingers while driving are a great discomfort and hurt our safety: the grip of the lever deteriorates. In the motorcycle store you can find long winter gloves with a sporty, urban or tourist character. Individual pairs, apart from solid protectors and reinforcements, have a warm, pleasant to the touch lining.
The market also offers useful accessories for cold days – heated grips, heating mats and blankets for the legs, thermal inserts or warm hand muffs.
Visibility on the road
On rainy, cloudy days, motorcyclists should be extremely vigilant. And there’s nothing worse than riding with a foggy helmet. It is worth getting a pinlock shell or an anti-fog foil or a special anti-fog liquid. An additional advantage of such a fluid is that when applied to the outer layer of the visor, it acts as an “invisible wiper” reducing water settling.
Reflective elements play a huge role in maintaining road safety. Motorcycle clothing produced today usually has fluo inserts, thanks to which we are visible. Many models also have modern reflectors that are invisible at first glance and illuminate in the light of the headlights. If necessary, we can purchase a reflective vest, special self-tightening bands or stickers made of fluorescent material.
