Safety on the track: reflective vests should be in the cabin of each car

The Russian government has changed the traffic rules. Now in the dark when leaving the car, drivers are required to wear a retro-reflective vest. It costs a penny but saves lives. Motorists need to be brighter to live longer.

Both in the city and on the highway it is equally dangerous to become invisible. In the dark and conditions of limited visibility, hundreds of people die. Helping the victims in a night accident, the actor of the series “Fizruk” died. Yegor Klinaev noticed the collided cars and stopped. The driver of a foreign car flying past crashed cars and not a caring car owner did not see.

Sultan Zhankaziyev, vice-rector of MADI, professor: “In our system of driver training, unfortunately, in connection with behavior in the event of an accident, there are no necessary points. In other countries, this moment is given a lot of attention. Everyone understands perfectly that people are dying not only as a result of an accident but also after an accident.”

According to the traffic rules, drivers should wear vests, but passengers are also at risk when they get out of the car. In Europe, a set of 5 vests should be in every car.

Irina Pegova, actress: “This is really important because I am on the tracks and often see fatal outcomes.”

The truckers suggested using a vest on the tracks as a “need help” signal.

Alexey Levchenko, the head of the truckers’ community: “We need some kind of sign that will indicate that a person needs help. And the vest was taken for the idea, to hang it on the mirror on the left side. Perfectly visible passing cars.”

After 3 months, when the norm comes into force, every driver must have a reflective vest, and not in the trunk, but inside the car, so as not to go out on a dark and dangerous road without a vest. It is necessary to wear it, but fine, if not put on, no. People themselves must take care of their safety. Vest for 200 rubles can be a salvation. The “Main Road” program encourages both drivers and pedestrians to wear retro-reflective elements.

For safety, pedestrians are offered to wear clothes with reflective elements

The Ministry of Internal Affairs, trying to protect pedestrians, decided to modernize their wardrobe, adding reflective elements to it.

Pink hearts, yellow bears and red men – this is it, the future of the wardrobe of the Moscow dandy. The mental agony of the lady in furs, adorned with such a reflective “brooch”, is not difficult to imagine. However, there is a solution. “For ladies who are very concerned, and how is it that I’ll put a reflector on my coat, we’ll make glamorous reflectors that suit everyone. The material is the same – fixing and shaping,” explains the chairman of the inter-regional public movement Union of Pedestrians Vladimir Sokolov.

In the world of fashion, he has long been in the trend, even the term was invented – “smart fabric”. From the element of workwear long ago migrated to the podiums. Elena Lubina’s collection “The Shining of Time” created a real sensation at the international competition of young designers “Exercise”.

Experts are sure: all this will easily go to the people, and therefore commercial success is not far off. New trend collection spring-summer 2014. Such a course of design thought fashionable Europe did not even dream. Paraphrasing the classic – the star will burn not only in the forehead, in the dark drivers can see the whole starry sky on the road. The struggle for the safety and health of pedestrians is somewhat reminiscent of this reflective T-shirt with reflective tape. A thing, in general, is useful and necessary, but the performance is more like a joke.

The philistine about the bill about the obligatory wearing of reflectors heard a lot. Knows that the naughty will be fined.

On the capital market, no more than eight companies are represented, and they mostly trade via the Internet. Annual turnover and up to a million rubles is not enough. Firms say that chain stores are not interested in their products. One hope for government orders. “Of course, the initiative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs from this point of view is a very big plus for all of us, not only because we start selling very large volumes, but the main thing is that people will finally think that there is a very good and convenient accessory that enhances your safety,” says Alexander Knyazev, commercial director of the company for the sale of reflective elements.

The security course is also a trend. So the Customs Union suddenly became concerned with the health of the weaker sex. Like, cowards, whose hygroscopicity, that is, the ability to absorb moisture, below six percent – not to import.

The public rebelled – they say, how is it that, without panties, then? The seller, Elena, has been in the laundry shop for many years. He says that if they cancel synthetic materials, the owners will definitely go bankrupt. 90 percent of customers buy it.

And yet the lace underwear is like the light at the end of a tunnel of the Soviet era. Thick pantaloons with a pile – a kind of symbol of the time. Almost the entire female half of the population of Moscow put on them in the cold season. “I just have an acquaintance who is a wonderful violinist, who is now famous so that in the winter he stopped caring for girls in general, in the winter he had a time out,” laughs theater artist and collector Victoria.

Whether the timeout will start again for men now seems to depend on customs. One can only hope that she has no more serious problems.

The rule on reflective vests for drivers came into force

When forced to stop at night outside the cities, drivers are now required to wear reflective vests. The relevant changes were made to the traffic regulations in December 2017 by a government decree

The new norm in the rules of the road, which obliges drivers to wear reflective vests when forced to stop at night outside settlements, takes effect from March 18, 2018.

The relevant government resolution was adopted on December 12, it said that the document entered into force 90 days after its official publication.

According to the decree, the driver is obliged to wear a reflective jacket, reflective vest or cape vest with stripes of reflective material when he wants to go to the side of the road or the roadway “in the event of a forced stop of a vehicle or an accident outside populated areas” at night.

Visible to the ambulance: the entire village with reflective house numbers

Apart from five addresses, all addresses of the village of Midwolde (municipality of Leek) will soon be provided with reflective house numbers. A call from two young ambulance drivers is effective.

The drivers arrived much too late last year to pick up a victim and take them to the hospital. They lost track in the nocturnal darkness.

Especially in the outskirts, it often happens that rescuers arrive late because house numbers cannot be found or are illegible from the public road. In situations where literally every second count, that is extremely undesirable.

Cry for help

The village association in Midwolde picked up the cry for help. Thanks to a subsidy from the province and Ondernemersfonds Leek, all houses in the village are provided with reflective numbers.

What may be called special: the villagers do not have to pull the wallet for this. People from the village association place a pole made of recycled plastic at each parcel. A triangular sign is then applied to this which is provided with reflective material on two sides. The house numbers are stuck in black on it.

According to board member Jos Leber (67) of the village association, a large part of Midwolde (133 addresses) is already provided with reflective house numbers. Another 73 addresses will follow this month.

The initiative is now being copied in neighboring Lettelbert, Den Horn and Enumatil, where another 50, 46 and five addresses, respectively, are provided with reflective house numbers. This mainly concerns plots in the outlying area. The extra subsidy has been made available for this. Leber calculates that the cost of installing a post with reflection plates is around 25 euros.

Three new versions of its trail set

Thanks to Bihr, the exclusive distributor for Spain and Portugal of RST, three new versions of the Rally set of the British firm arrive in our country. Available in three versions, this set stands out for its ability to adapt to any climatic situation and its high level of protection.

With the arrival of good weather also comes the time of motorcycle routes. For users of trail bikes and maxi-trail RST brings to our country, with Bihr, three new versions of the Rallye set. Three different models that will cover the needs and tastes of all pilots.

The version in yellow and black fluorine is intended for those who want to become the center of attention during the adventure. If you want to achieve an elegant style, the model in silver and metal is perfect for you. The version in earth and sand tones is designed for lovers of off-road routes. In addition, the Rallye set is also available in black, for those who are looking for garments with a design that works for the whole year.

The Rallye set made of ballistic nylon and Maxtex fabric, with triple seam laminated nylon reinforcements. This makes their level of resistance to tears and abrasions very high. It also has protections with CE approval on knees, elbows, shoulders and a level 1 trellis. Reflective tapes have also been included to allow the pilot to be seen by others.

The jacket and trousers in this set have the advantage of adapting to any climatic situation. This is possible thanks to its waterproof and breathable Sinaqua membrane, its heat-sealed zippers and ventilation perforations, with which the body will perspire while eliminating heat. It also has a removable inner thermal lining that will keep the body safe from the cold no matter how low the temperature.

To ensure comfort while driving, RST has provided this set of ergonomic elastic panels behind the knees, elbows, and shoulders. In addition, the three versions have inner and outer pockets and zipper binding, so that the pants and jacket remain attached. Both garments have an adjustable waist and arm straps, and other adjustable adjustments in the neck and lower part of the trousers for a perfect fit.

3 tips for running in the dark

Especially in winter, when the sun rises late, sets early and there is summer time, it is inevitable to go out in the dark, or in poor lighting conditions. And unfortunately there is not always a way to run on exclusive tracks for runners and closed to traffic: we often end up running on the street and on the sidewalks with the consequent dangers given by the traffic of cars and motorcycles.

When you go out running in the dark it is essential to think first of all about your safety, trying to be as visible as possible. In at least three ways.

  1. Use clothing with reflective materials

Especially in the winter running clothing lines all brands now include reflective tapes or fluorescent colors at will: look for those with the highest high visibility surface (and obviously forget uniformly colored jackets and tight).

  1. It especially highlights moving parts

Put yourself in the shoes of a motorist absorbed in his thoughts: he will see you better, first and more clearly if he sees something illuminated moving on his horizon. Then add reflective bands to legs, arms and if you can even to shoes (you can also use reflective tape on the heel).

  1. Use intermittent lights

For the same reason, intermittent lights will more easily catch the attention of a motorist than fixed lights: so ok the headlamp, but also hold a torch, or attach a small light bulb to the forearm, and put them in intermittent mode.

Visibly well dressed in high visibility clothing

High-quality and highly functional warning clothing is justified in countless occupations and work areas. It protects against various professional risks and attracts the attention of third parties in poor visibility and darkness over long distances

FE Engel has long been appreciating the advantage of being easily recognizable: as Scandinavian winters have long dark periods and the oblique evening sun shines in the summer, high-visibility clothing has long been a central component of the protective clothing concept at the Danish clothing manufacturer.

In countless situations, high visibility clothing that is recognizable in any lighting conditions improves the protection of professionals. The eye-catching fluorescent colors and the retro reflective tapes clearly signal when workers move in dark halls, workshops, warehouses or construction sites, or travel on confusing terrain and poorly lit paths. They are a visual display for people at work. FE Engel has long appreciated this outstanding function of high-visibility clothing: “In Scandinavia, darkness dominates in winter, and on summer evenings a low-lying sun hides. That limits the view and becomes a risk factor, “explains managing director Carl E. Engel.

“Based on this experience, we have made the ISO 20471 warning function a central part of our protective clothing concept. It improves the chance of craftsmen and employees in industrial companies to be reliably and remotely recognized, even under special lighting conditions. This allows them to work undisturbed and safely. ”

Visibly safe dressed in everyday working life

With its two ranges Safety and Safety +, FE Engel offers one of the most comprehensive, highly functional and thoroughly thought-through safety-protection collections in Europe. The safety line is dedicated to an appearance on traffic routes that is safe in any weather. The numerous tops and pants meet ISO 20471 and offer various solutions in protection classes 1, 2 and 3. The Parka Shell jacket, the Shell pilot jacket, and rain jacket and pants also protect reliably against bad weather; they are additionally certified according to EN 343.

Safety + combines warning protection with the plus of other protection features required in trade and industry. These include protection against welding, heat, and flame (ISO 11611 and ISO 11612) in protection classes 1 and 2 as well as protection against the thermal hazards of an arc (FprEN 61482), chemical protection of type 6 (EN 13034) and protection against electrostatic charging (EN 1149-5).

The versatility of the FE Engel high-visibility collection is also reflected in the variety of colors: Safety and Safety + are available in the hi-vis basic colors red, yellow and orange, or are combined with the sought after shades of gray, green and dark blue in many industries.

The Safety and Safety + ranges include jackets, softshell and fleece jackets, safety vests, shirts, t-shirts, polos and sweatshirts, trousers, dungarees and shorts, and combinations.

Bike helmets in the test

The winter is over and we can dare to go back to the bikes. 70 percent of the Germans do not wear a helmet and reflective vest, but a serious head injury is the most common accident when falling from a bicycle!

Bicycle helmets are not only mandatory for children. The adults are not all-rounders and mistakes are human – you do not even have to blame yourself. A good bike helmet does not hurt, is light and even looks sporty. You do not have to spend tons of money on it. For 30 euros you get a helmet that is comfortable and qualitative. And as long as you do not end up on the head, you do not have to buy a new one, so put on a helmet!

Bicycle helmets come in many different shapes and colors. Depending on whether you only occasionally make a trip, every day to work or off for sporting reasons, you should adjust his requirements for the helmet. For sports riders, there are even helmets with visor, then you can even get on the saddle in winter and in summer this is a perfect insect repellent.

Even for biking at night, there are helmets with LEDs recently, so you are seen in the dark from afar. But eye-catching helmet colors also ensure passive safety.

Bike helmets in the test

The test portal Alles Beste has seen ten new bicycle helmets. The new test winner Uvex City Light was chosen. He is comfortable, has a sunscreen, night lighting and also the shutter is very convenient. For this helmet, however, you have to take a bit more money into your hands. But even for the small purse, there are other good recommendations.

Sports cyclists should be enthusiastic about the Casco Roadster. He has a visor and a great shape, which surrounds the head even more than ordinary bicycle helmets. He is still lightweight and has a high wearing comfort. Separate earmuffs make this helmet even winterproof. Reflective stripes also guarantee this model a high level of road safety. This helmet is also a bit more expensive, but for regular use, this is worth the investment. For the small purse, the test portal Alles Beste can recommend the Cratoni Pacer +. It comes with everything a good bike helmet needs to have: comfort, lightness, sun protection and easy handling. The helmet, which does not even cost 30 euros, is available in many colors.

The extra-light harness lanyard

With the ProLine harness lanyard, Wichard offers a sophisticated high-end model.

Introduced in 2013 by Wichard, the ProLine lanyard is only available on the market this year. Why? Simply for reasons of a manufacturing technique that made the realization too expensive. This point now resolved, this superb harness lanyard will finally be able to protect us.

A long-standing player in the field of safety, Wichard has developed this range to meet the needs of boaters and demanding riders. Indeed, with a narrow strap and a very light carabiner, this lanyard is very comfortable to wear. The carabiner is hot-forged in special aluminum to provide good corrosion resistance and significant weight gain compared to stainless steel. Similarly, the strap is in a textile that absorbs little water and dries quickly. A retro-reflective strap with reflective tape, visible at night.

The carabiner design has been heavily engineered to open with one hand while having a lock (unintentional opening impossible). The shape of the hook is also designed to easily catch the lines of life, even models strap.

By offering the possibility to change the strap without changing carabiners (EcoLogic system) Wichard is committed to extending the life of its product. A good idea not to consume too much and limit investments.

This ProLine lanyard is available in a model with a strap and 2 carabiners, or with a single carabiner and a ring. So you can compose your lanyard by transforming it into a 1 or 2-strand model.

Bike safety: a reminder of the new rules

A multitude of measures concerning cyclists has been adopted since May 2018, as part of Bill 165 amending the Highway Safety Code. A little refreshment is needed, at the beginning of the season.

Pedestrian light: drive with caution

In recent days, “facing a red light and a pedestrian light activated, the cyclist is allowed to continue his journey. In this case, he must stop, give priority to pedestrians and drive at a reasonable and prudent speed.

Exceeding distance cars

Another rule that came into effect this week is for drivers to “slow down and stay a distance when they’re past a cyclist,” says Sophie Roy. “This distance is 1.5m on roads where the limit is more than 50 km/h and 1m on roads where the limit is 50 km/h or less”.

Sanctions on the rise

Offenses for bicycle offenses were increased in May 2018 to $ 80 to $ 100, while demerit points are no longer applied.

“Before, the fines for cyclists were the same as for pedestrians, from $ 15 to $ 30. The level of risk of hurting another road user is higher for a cyclist than for a pedestrian, “says Roy.

No distractions

A new measure also confirms that it is forbidden for any cyclist “to use a cell phone or any other portable device designed to transmit or receive information or to be used for entertainment purposes, or to make use of a display screen “.

The same applies to the wearing of headphones that are not allowed, with the exception of the “bike helmet with integrated earphones that captures the ambient noise,” says Ms. Roy.

Signals of intentions

During a turn at an intersection, “the rule required the cyclist to make two signals: one to signal his intention to slow down and one to signal his intention to turn,” puts Ms. Roy in context.

Since May 2018, the first is no longer mandatory, but the second still holds, unless his maneuver jeopardizes the safety of the cyclist, stipulates the regulation.

Multiple reflective materials and reflective vests

“The red reflector on the back and the white reflector on the front of the bike are always mandatory,” says Roy.

However, “alternative measures are permitted to fill the absence of reflectors on parts of the bicycle such as pedals and spokes”, including reflective tire sidewalls and appropriate color reflective strips placed in the right places.
