Application of reflective materials in marine lifesaving equipment

As we all known, reflective materials were first used in road traffic safety facilities, it has become an indispensable security guard for road traffic. Actually, reflective materials also play a significant role in life safety at sea which is mainly reflected in the night search and rescue work, and are widely applied in marine lifesaving equipment. How to attach the reflective tape of the life-saving equipment on board, at IMO Resolution 4.658(16)as specified in the appendix.

  1. Lifeboat

The paste of reflector tape must reach sufficient width and length, with the minimum area of each reflector tape reaching 150 square centimeters and distributed evenly. And it’s required to stick to the side of the lifeboat.

  1. Life buoy

Four rounds of reflective tape must be placed evenly around the lifebuoy. Each reflective strip should be wide enough (about 5cm).

  1. Life jacket

The position of the reflective tape on the life jacket must be helpful to search from all directions such as the surface rescue ship and the air rescue aircraft. The total area of the reflective material should not be less than 400 square centimeters.

For reversible lifejackets, the requirements for the paste must be on either side, and the total area of the reflective belt should not be less than 400 square centimeters. In addition, reflective tape as much as possible pastes on the top of the lifejacket.

  1. Immersion suits

Paste requirements for immersion suits are the same as the life jacket.

Besides, for immersion suits that do not automatically make the wearer face upward, a reflective tape with a total area of no less than 100 square centimeters shall be applied to the back.

To sum up, the application of reflective tape to life-saving equipment at sea is explicitly specified and there is a detailed paste requirement, as it does help in the rescue work for the drowning person and improve the protection of human life at sea.

Road safety: wear reflections

In 2017, over 39 thousand people suffered in road accidents. What’s more, 38 percent of all the victims were “unprotected” participants in the movement, and in every fourth incident suffered by pedestrians. The most dangerous period for pedestrians was the autumn and winter season, during which 549 people were killed. As statistics of the National Police Headquarters show, in comparison with 2016, the number of accidents has decreased, however Polish roads still belong to one of the most dangerous in Europe. In this respect, we are in the fourth place from the end. In 2017, an average of 49 people per European citizen per million citizens died, while in Poland – 75. The lowest number of fatal accidents occurred in Sweden, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands.

With a view to improving road safety, especially in autumn and winter, the Odblaskowi.pl campaign is taking off for the ninth time. Objective? First of all, educate and implement positive habits among pedestrians. This year the Reflective Patrol will reach 15 cities. There are many attractions, interactive activities and educational games waiting for participants of events organized as part of the campaign. In Safe Towns the youngest will learn the rules of safe traffic on the road, learn how to safely cross the road to school, and receive reflective tapes. In total, organizers will give away 60,000 bands and 50 thousand information brochures for parents.

In a dimly lit place, after dark the driver notices the pedestrian only from a distance of 30 meters. After applying the reflective vests, this distance increases to 150-200 meters, and with long light switched on even up to a kilometer. Reflective elements help to improve safety, but caution and careful observation on the part of pedestrians and drivers are the key to avoiding tragedy.

The more independent children become, the more often they are exposed to road accidents. Some of them result from the lack of sufficient knowledge about safe behavior in road traffic. Therefore, the primary element of any child’s outer cover should be reflective. By reflecting the light, they allow you to see the youngest of conditions of inadequate visibility, which often protects you against being hit by a car – instructs young insp. Agate Krystal from the Traffic Office of the Police Headquarters.

How to properly wear reflective vests?

Students in schools that will visit the Reflective Patrol will also receive educational materials prepared by specialists in the field of road safety. They will learn from them how to wear reflective vests and where to put them.

Assuming reflective materials, you have to think about which side to set them on. In Poland, according to the regulations, a pedestrian who is moving on the road is obliged to walk on the left side. The vehicle comes to him from the front, so we put such a reflective element on the right hand, on the right leg, to make it more visible from the side of the road. Let’s try to make children of schoolbags or clothing have a reflective element on the right, says Powel from the Traffic Department of the Warsaw Metropolitan Police Headquarters.

Since the car’s low beam is lowered low and illuminates the road, the reflector should be placed as low as possible. If the pedestrian has a reflector-pendant, you can hang it on the neck, but such a high placement makes it will be less effective than the element placed a meter lower, for example at the ankle. Every half a meter down increases visibility by several dozen meters. This difference can determine the life of a pedestrian.

Cyclists got vests

City guards handed over several dozen reflective vests to cyclists, so that the amateurs of the two wheels are better visible and safer. Reflections hit the pedestrians.

Once again, the city guards set out on bicycle paths to ensure the safety of cyclists. On Monday, each cyclist encountered on their way received a reflective vest with reflective materials. The guards also remembered the safety of pedestrians. Those in turn received reflective tapes from the officers.

Pedestrians and cyclists constitute a large group of road accident victims. Therefore, it is their safety that should be especially taken care of. During a collision with another vehicle, the driver can count on airbags or seat belts. Pedestrians and cyclists do not protect anything. The reflective elements will at least allow them to be seen from a distance. They save lives of unprotected road users.

The City Guard prepared a total of 300 reflective vests. Half of them have already reached cyclists. They will receive next Bialystok during the next actions.

A woman was hit by a car

On Thursday, on the DN 17, a 32-year-old man from Parma, while driving a car direction, surprised and deadly, a 69-year-old woman without wearing reflective vest he hired to cross the road without being sure.

The driver was tested with the literates, the result being negative. The research continues to determine all the circumstances in which the event took place, within a criminal record drawn up by police officers.

Romanian police recommend pedestrians:

To engage in crossing the public road only through the specially arranged places (on the pedestrian crossing) and the green color of the electric traffic light, where it exists;

To ensure that the crossing can be carried out safely (the vehicles are stopped before the pedestrian marking, especially when the road has several lanes on the way);

Never cross the pedestrian marker, regardless of the emergency at one time;

Not to go on the roadside, and where there is no pavement or paved road (predominantly in the countryside), move on the left side of the road as close as possible to the edge of the road;

In bad weather or dark, wear reflective clothing or reflective materials to be visible;

Not to cross the front or back of the public transport when they are stopped at the station.

Three accidents involving moped or motorcycle drivers

Police officers are alerting and demanding that two-wheeled vehicle drivers show increased traffic attention, given that in the last days there have been three accidents involving moping or motorcycle drivers in the county. Thus, on Saturday, around 19.10, a 63-year-old man, driving the unregistered moped on DC Palatino, from DN17A direction to Palatino village, in a slight curve to left, lost control of the moped, left the carriageway, entering into a lateral collision with the fence on the right side of its direction. The result of the road event was the bodily injury of the 63-year-old man who was transported to Camp lung Moldovans Municipal Hospital for medical care. The driver was tested with the ethylated device, resulting in 0.71mg / l in the exhaled air. Biographical evidence has been collected. A criminal case has been drawn up for offenses of “bodily harm”, “driving under the influence of alcohol”, “driving without a license” and “driving an unregistered vehicle”.

Friday, at 22:00, a 15-year-old minor from the village while driving the moped on DJ 178. Brake to DN 17, lost control of the direction of travel, unbalanced and fell on the carriageway. The moped there was another 17-year-old minor. None of them wear a helmet and a reflective vest. The impact caused the moped’s damage. It also resulted in the bodily injury of the moped driver who remained at home until the morning of the following day, being transported to the County Hospital by ambulance. The minor does not have a driving license. The investigations are continued by the Police Road Police Office. A criminal investigation file has been drawn up in the matter of committing offenses of “bodily injuries” and “driving a non-driving vehicle”.

The worst accident was caused by a 24-year-old young man, Emanuel T, on Friday evening at 19.40. Without a driving license, he was driving a bike to the city center. At the junction with the exit of Shopping City, he collided with a Dacia Logan – taxi. Traffic police investigations show that the driver has crossed the green traffic light of the traffic light from the Shopping City parking lot on the neighborhood while the biker was on the red. The young man arrived at the hospital in serious condition. Under these conditions, the police officers of the Compartment for Analysis and Prevention of Crime – IPJ carried out several actions in traffic, motorcyclists and moped drivers were informed about the elements of legislation and preventive recommendations in order to make motorcyclists more responsible and increase their road safety Politicians give some recommendations for motorcyclists: “Always try to have visual contact with the drivers who might be crossing your path! Anticipate the intentions of your roommates – even when drivers, cyclists and pedestrians see you coming in, they can mistakenly appreciate the distance or speed. Sport attention to turns and junctions – the most common type of motorcycle crash is generated by drivers who are not sure to turn left turns or to change the travel lane! Make sure you turn – Do not be slowed down for you! Be prepared for dangerous road conditions – wet road, liquid leakage, sand, gravel, tramway, holes and other road surface dangers that may affect you Grip the curves at moderate speeds without cutting them – many accidents happen because of the penetration in the opposite direction!

Use an approved helmet – which meets current safety standards. Avoid buying a used helmet, you may have suffered an accident, and repair can hide structural flaws! Wear safety clothing for motorcyclists – only this can provide good protection during an accident. Modular equipment in layers is recommended so you can adapt it to the changing weather conditions!

Protect your eyes – airflow, flying insects and dust diminish your visibility and can damage your eyes or face. Visible – wear bright, reflective clothing with reflective materials. Add reflective material or wear a reflective vest. Always keep the headlamp lit and run to the position where drivers can easily see you in the rear view mirror (2/3 of the belt width). Avoid dead angles of other vehicles! “

Safety at work

Suva is active in prevention, insurance and rehabilitation. In terms of workplace safety, she is relying on her vision to save 250 lives in ten years. It is based on the application of vital roles in ensuring companies.

The vital roles of the Suva, if applied, prevent 60% of serious or fatal occupational accidents. For Philippe, head of the Health and Safety Prevention Department. “these rules are an excellent foundation. But when a company aims for the goal of zero accidents and zero occupational diseases, it is essential to expand them, to make them live, and to turn them into a true culture of safety. ”

Zero risk

Marissa is one of the largest construction companies in Switzerland. A copy of health and safety at the workplace, she won the Suva Safety Award in 2012. The objective zeroes accidents? Intermediate landing for her. “The ultimate goal should be zero risk,” continues Philippe, giving his recipe for success: Effective prevention must be carried out, experienced by the management of the company and supported by a team that commits daily. Everyone has to pull the same rope. ”

The construction company has put in place very strict and unavoidable security measures on the building sites: badge entrance door, mandatory morning warm-up, ladder replacement by nacelles, respect of vital rules, mandatory wearing of helmets, glasses, hearing protection, gloves, reflective vest and reinforced shoes for everyone present. Personal protective equipment is of course offered by the company. “But, beware, this is not a gift, a lot of material to use without exception!”

Daily safety

Health and Safety Prevention manager also noticed a change in the mentality of the “Companions”, the employees on the building sites. “The measures advocated have not always had a resounding reception. We must not fool ourselves. But in recent years, security is no longer suffered at home. She is lived. It’s part of everyday life. “Anise, a trainee with the construction company. Agrees:” I must admit that I have never had a safety-conscious companion “.

“Over the years, we have realized that effective prevention does not prevent effective work, quite the contrary,” insists Philippe. “To work safely, you have to plan, prepare. There must be no room for improvisation. “And when the work is organized and secure, motivation, productivity and satisfaction increase together.

Safety is not a choice and is no longer a duty. It has become a culture experienced at all levels of the company, from director to apprentice. No job deserves to risk one’s life. And it is important for workers to wear safety clothing and use reflective materials in their work place.

Family trip by bike in Lower Austria

Nice weather, vacation and holiday season – ideal conditions to make a trip by bike. Whether alone, as a couple or with the whole family: exploring Lower Austria with all its peculiarities on the bike is fun and offers enjoyment for all the senses. It should be well prepared for the cycling trip to be a complete success.

Being on the road means doing something for one’s own health and protecting the climate and the environment. In addition, smart means of transport are an answer to lack of space and noise in cities. “On the one hand, the bike is therefore the perfect companion for everyday life, but on the other hand it is becoming increasingly popular and used in tourism too. Excursions by bike are also a real insider tip for the discovery of the beautiful Lower Austrian landscapes. “reveals LH Deputy Stephan.

Lower Austria’s diversity of natural and cultural landscapes makes Lower Austria particularly attractive for cyclists. The signposted cycle route network in this country is a stately 4,200 kilometers. In addition to the varied topography, it is above all the bike-friendly climate that makes excursions so pleasant.

“Important for a relaxing bike ride is a good preparation. In addition to careful planning with regard to the level of difficulty of the route and accommodation options, route planners and maps in particular should not be missing. “said Herbert, Managing Director of Energy and Environment Agency NÖ. Before you start, check the bike for a short while: inflate wheels, check lights and reflective vests, test and service brakes, gear shift and chain.

For longer cycling trips, it is recommended to use waterproof bicycle bags that can accommodate light breathable clothing, rain cover, breakdown tools and food. It is also important that the bike is roadworthy on the road. In addition to a white headlight and a white reflector at the front of the bike, the right equipment includes a bicycle bell, working brakes, a red tail light and a red rear reflector at the rear, yellow reflectors on the pedals and two yellow or white reflectors on the sides of the bike. And the cyclists also have to wear reflective clothing with reflective fabric.

For children up to the twelfth year of age, there is a helmet requirement in Austria. But even after the head protection is useful and recommended. A good helmet complies with the standard DIN EN 1078 for adults or child helmets of the standard DIN EN 1080 and has a hard outer shell and reflective materials. It is very important to buy a helmet that fits really well – even when the cap is open and the head is tilted forward and slightly shaken.

For cycling trips in Lower Austria, there are also around 900 textbooks at around 200 stations in 76 communities. The next bike offer is ideal for combining with public transport, as there are 49 stations directly at train stations in Lower Austria. If you have a Lower Austria Card, you can also travel for a whole day with a next bike for free.

23 ads at school walk training in Ziebach

The horror for every mom: The children stand obediently at the crosswalk, wait, the car stops, the car behind them too, the children go, suddenly both vehicles overtake a third car from behind – regardless of pedestrians or crosswalks. Incidentally, this scene actually happened in the middle of Ziebach. But it was not Mama who watched, but the police. Kids even wore yellow safety vests with reflective materials – clearly visible from a distance as a school walk training.

“I was shocked”. Admits frankly traffic cop Franz Mayer. “This has never happened to me during school-leaving training for preschool children.”  the kindergartens are always allowed to cross the crosswalk with their hi vis vests. Franz Mayer waits at the edge, on the other side she receives an educator.

Many drivers do not follow the traffic rules

“We do this training every year with kindergartens in the Inn valley,” explains Mayer, who does this together with his colleague Roland Minter. But this year, the two noticed especially that many drivers do not follow the traffic rules. Because the stating: If a pedestrian waits at a zebra crossing, the car must hold compellingly.

If it drives anyway, it costs 80 Euros and a point in Flensburg. A total of 23 motorists alone during the school exercise disregarded this rule and took the children’s right of way.

Wear the reflective vest- be seen!

From a distance of 140 meters instead of 25 meters, a child is seen in the dark when wearing the bright yellow safety vest. As a result, it is much better protected against accidents in road traffic.

And because they cannot yet assess danger as well as the larger students, the 71 new students at the Park School got the gaudy West of the ADAC Foundation “Yellow Angel” again this year.

The fourth graders (4b), with their class teacher Christa Schreyer and Ralf Salish (traffic educator of the PI 6), wooed convincing slogans to really attract the vest. The 4b convincingly explained the first years – first in the form of a “poem” – the benefits of the protective vest with its wide, orange reflective tapes and lighting effect of the neon yellow color. Enthusiastically, big ones distributed by the vest to the proud little ones and helped them get dressed.

And that should consider the motorists:

First graders are perceived by other road users late or not at all. Due to insufficient overview, children cannot sufficiently recognize and assess many dangerous situations.

Because children are not yet able to localize the sounds of their environment well, they are also disadvantaged in traffic. Children cannot react so fast. Therefore, they often lack the necessary time to stop or dodge in risky situations. So it is important to wear vest with reflective materials.

Municipality of Rancagua celebrates World Bicycle Day

As part of this activity, 500 reflective vests were delivered free of charge to cyclists to improve their safety conditions.

The Day of the bicycle is celebrated all over the world and Rancagua was not the exception. The purpose of this data is to promote this alternative means of transport, economic and ecological, and to draw attention to the rights and duties of cyclists.

That is why in the framework of this celebration, in five strategic points of the city, municipal officials gave free 500 reflective vests with reflective tapes to all cyclists who walked from 7 to 8.30 in the morning, by bike lanes, as an element to promote safety.

Those who at that time were going to their places of work or schools, were grateful for this initiative that will undoubtedly provide greater security in their daily trips.

Rancagua has 54 km of cycle paths in the city, making it the largest interconnected network in the entire country, so the municipality has taken the commitment to deliver a secure network, interconnected so that all pedestrians who choose this means of mobilization can use them more calmly and safely.

For Raimondi, director of SECPLAC, “this activity was a success, since we have been pleasantly satisfied, we have confirmed that the cyclists are using our bicycle lanes and are becoming more and more concerned about their safety. Our challenge is to advance in this area, promote good practices and contribute to have a better culture around the use of the bicycle. “he said.

For its part, the cyclists who traveled this morning appreciated this delivery and the concern of the municipality. “It will help me a lot in my transfers. Now I can see the motorists and I can be calmer when I leave the house early to work at the center,” said José.

Meanwhile, another beneficiary highlighted how useful it is to have reflective materials on the bike. ” I thank the municipality for caring about us. “he said.

The bicycle is an alternative means of economic and ecological locomotion, beneficial for health and respectful with the environment, but it is necessary to raise awareness about the culture around it, with simple advice you can have a better coexistence and safety: always use helmet, reflective clothing, white front light, red rear light, respect the pedestrian and make use of the roads enabled for their transit.
